Kevin Eggheads Quizzer: He went to St. Bede’s Primary School and Peter Symonds Grammar School/College when Ashman was growing up in Winchester, which is located in the state of Hampshire. After that, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Modern History from the University of Southampton.
When he was in his mid-twenties, he made the decision to better his understanding of the sciences while working as a civil servant at the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport. It was around this time that he got interested in taking part in quizzes.
Ashman won the third series of Fifteen to One in 1989, which was his first significant triumph on a television quiz show. In 1999, he came back and won the special “Millennium Edition” competition that was held amongst previous winners. In 1995, he triumphed in Mastermind by setting a new record with 41 points without using any of his passes.
On that particular occasion, his area of expertise was centred on the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. Later, he became the champion after winning the final on the topic Zulu War, and in 2006, he made an appearance at the final of the Junior edition, where he encouraged a young competitor who similarly picked Zulu Wars as his final subject. After winning Mastermind in 1995, he went on to take first place in Brain of Britain the following year, collecting 38 points in the semi-final round, which is still the highest individual score that has ever been achieved on the programme.
After that, he went on to win Brain of Brains, which was a competition amongst the winners of Brains of Britain from the prior three years, as well as Top Brain (contested every nine years between the previous three Brain of Brains). In addition, Ashman triumphed twice in the radio competition known as Master Brain, which was open to the champions and runners-up of both Mastermind and Brain of Britain.
However, Jeremy also confessed to having a “soft spot” for another Egghead, as he talked of his admiration for Judith Keppel, the winner of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
He went on to say, “I have to be honest and say that I have a thing for Judith Keppel.” I tease her, and she teases me in return. We have a wonderful connection both in front of and behind the camera. The other day I spoke with her, and she told me that she is overjoyed that it is going to be brought back.
She is the only woman in history to have ever won one million dollars on the game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, making her a true legend in the world of trivia.
A significant portion of the broadcast as well as the conversation that the Eggheads have is devoted to banter. “I’m shocked at how much aggregate knowledge they have, which is especially surprising for those of us who don’t participate in quizzes,” he said to this week’s issue of Radio Times.
It was reported earlier this month that the programme will be moving from the BBC to Channel 5 in the United Kingdom. Jeremy said that the successful quiz programme was cancelled by the BBC in order to appeal to a younger viewership demographic.
How old is Kevin from Eggheads?
During the course of the show, participants put their general knowledge to the test by trying to answer more questions correctly than a group of knowledgeable experts. A participant in the Hampshire Eggheads tournament has offered his expert guidance on how to outsmart the other players at your neighbourhood pub quiz.
Kevin Ashman, from Winchester, now has the highest record score on Mastermind. As part of a new at-home Channel 5 masterclass film, he has revealed his strategies for addressing areas of weakness in order to improve one’s performance.
The film covers four of the most successful quiz champions in Britain, each of whom offers tips on how to compete intellectually with other teams, improve your general knowledge, and get ready for a quiz as effectively as possible.
When asked about addressing areas of weakness, Kevin stated, “It’s hardly rocket science.” Even if it seems impossible at first. Do not shy away from your less strong themes. It makes a difference if you are able to browse certain websites linked with that topic, even if you may not feel completely at ease while interacting with them.
“For instance, if you’re interested in science, you may consider going to a science museum. Who knows what kind of things you may discover there that would spark your curiosity if you went there. There are certain things that simply keep cropping up again and again, and because of this, you should definitely prioritise giving those things your attention first.
The study found that 14% of men and women are too timid to participate in pub quizzes now that they are available again. This is despite the fact that the popularity of zoom quiz evenings skyrocketed during the lockdown.
In a recent survey that was commissioned by the show Eggheads on Channel 5, approximately 80% of respondents agreed that the pub quiz is an important part of British culture. However, 62% of respondents admitted that they lacked confidence in their general knowledge.
Even if they have less confidence in their own talents, fifty per cent of people indicate that the social side of participating in pub quiz evenings is their favourite part of the experience, while just twenty-eight per cent prefer the competitive aspect.
What did Kevin on Eggheads do for a living?
Egghead Judith Keppel, the first person and only woman to win Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, gives advice on how to study for a quiz night and how to remember information.
She said that reading newspapers was the most crucial step to do. It is not necessary for you to read the whole article; nevertheless, you should read the headlines. Learn the characteristics of an excellent question for a test or quiz. I engage in a sort of mental exercise known as crossword puzzles, both of the cryptic and general knowledge varieties.
There is no such thing as being too prepared for a test. Sir Christopher Wren was the very last person in the world who was thought to have known all there was to know about everything. Since then, there has been a loss of knowledge. You can never know enough, and there is no way you can know all there is to know. So just keep learning.”
The citizens of the United Kingdom have also voted for their favourite Egghead general knowledge champ, and the results showed that Judith and Kevin tied for first place as the most intelligent participants in quiz shows.
The master quizzer has also won several World Championships and European Championships served as Captain of the England Quiz Team and is now recognised as the best quizzer in the whole world.
Jeremy Vine, the host of “Eggheads,” was asked who his favourite quizzer was, and he responded by saying, “Banter is a significant part of the programme and the talk that the Eggheads have.” I’m shocked at how much aggregate information they have, especially considering that most of us don’t participate in quizzes.
In the middle of the 1980s, when Kevin first began participating at regular quizzes, he was employed as a civil servant in the Ministry of Defence.
And despite the fact that he has never participated in an episode of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire? During the immensely popular run that the show has had on primetime television, he has participated as a “phone-a-friend” in both the normal and celebrity versions.
